Big and small

healing
Don't look at this if you're squeamish.
I tried to make an animated gif to show the healing on Bob's hand.

The surgery was done with an open wound that required soaking and changing the dressings twice a day -- no antibiotics or creams. I took a photograph once a week and 4 weeks later the open wound has gone from big to small. It's amazing to watch the skin grow back together.

What a cool way to show off the hubby's healing process! I am squeamish.....but I looked and GROSS! That is some surgery, never heard of a surgery like that...I bet he hurt a bit! Perfect for the theme (and I am so glad he is on the mend)!

Bob is my ex-husband, Tammy. 30 years later we have a peace between us -- as long as we don't see too much of each other that is.

those are awesome photos. I'm just warped enough to want to know why they had to do that...

I guess I should have given the complete story.

Bob had a condition called Dupuytren's contracture where the hands curl up and won't straighten out. Last year the surgeon straightened the right hand and stitched up all the incisions. This year the surgeon said he has better luck with healing when he uses an open incision, so that's the way he did the left hand. It's too bad I didn't think to take a photograph before the surgery, but it's too late now. I had my camera strung around my neck when Bob saw the doctor 3 days after the surgery and taking photographs was the doctor's idea.

Anyway I found it amazing to see the skin grow back over the open wound. I'm making a collage for the doctor, but the animated gif that I thought might be a good display of the healing process won't do the doc any good for show-and-tell. (=:

Ouch! That was an extended healing process. Great idea on the animation.
